The New York Knicks didn’t have a good night at home when they went up against the Chicago Bulls and lost 123-124 at Madison Square Garden. As is customary during games at MSG, there were some star names in attendance.

Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway was sitting courtside and saw Knicks forward OG Anunoby almost crash into her seat during the game as she attended the game with her four-year-old son.

Anunoby was trying to get a steal on a Josh Giddey pass but only managed to deflect it. While trying to save the ball from going out of bounds, Anunoby almost went over the advertisement boards and onto Hathaway’s seat, who promptly had people checking up on her to see if she was okay.

The Knicks unfortunately lost this game to fall to 5-6 on the season, but Anunoby had a mixed evening. He was a defensive presence but couldn’t find consistency with his scoring, putting up 14 points (5-14 FG) and nine rebounds. He’s averaging 16.2 points and 5.0 rebounds on the season.

Hathaway was attending the game with her four-year-old son Jack and husband Patrick Schulman. Unfortunately, Jack saw his popcorn spilled everywhere but was unfazed when the 6’7″, 240-pound Anunoby almost crashed into those seats.

The Knicks were led by an explosive performance by summer acquisition Karl-Anthony Towns, who put up 46 points (18-30 FG) and 10 rebounds. Jalen Brunson put up 24 points (9-20 FG) with eight assists while other summer acquisition Mikal Bridges contributed 20 points (8-15 FG).

The Bulls improved their season record to 5-7 in this win led by an efficient Zach LaVine night, as the swingman put up 31 points (12-17 FG), seven rebounds, and eight assists. Coby White had 22 points (6-16 FG) while Patrick Williams put up 18 points (6-9 FG) and six rebounds. Nikola Vucevic had a double-double with 19 points (9-14 FG) and 11 rebounds.

Towns has been solid for New York, with the center averaging 26.5 points and 12.2 rebounds this season, but it hasn’t resulted in improved results for the Knicks. Jalen Brunson has been solid as well, averaging 24.3 points on 46.3% from the field. The team’s questionable depth has been another problem, as they have a streaky bench without a competent backup forward or center.

The moves in the summer were a step toward contention, but the Knicks need to round out their roster and add playable depth to be able to withstand runs from other teams. Everyone in the East is struggling outside the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, so the Knicks have time to get their rhythm through the early season before hopefully catching form at the right time as they did last season after January.
