Nick Friedell: ‘Watching Zion Williamson Is As Worrisome As Watching Early Derrick Rose’

Zion Williamson’s return to the basketball court has been everything we’d hoped it would be. His play is stellar and his impact is being felt as his team attempts to climb out of the pit of the Western Conference.

But in the midst of all the excitement, the world is holding its breath. Zion has already missed months due to injury and the reports of concerns over his weight and the state of his body is drawing a lot of attention.

On “the Jump,” ESPN’s Nick Friedell discussed the return of Zion Williamson to the New Orleans Pelicans, saying he gets as worried about Zion as he did watching early Derrick Rose.

Derrick Rose was known for putting tremendous pressure on his knees. As a high-flying athlete, he was constantly moving and jumping in such a way that made people feel as if an injury could happen at any moment.

For Zion, it might be even worse. He’s one of the heaviest players in the league and depends on his athleticism even more so than Rose.

No doubt, the Pelicans may have to help Zion re-make his game and movements to help ease the pressure on his joints. Moving forward, you can expect them to be very wary about how they treat Williamson moving forward.
