Nikola Jokic was all praise for Anthony Davis when asked about his tough matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers big man.

“He is one of the most talented players in the league,” Jokic said in the aftermath of the Nuggets 132-126 win in Game 1. “He can play in the pocket, he can play iso, he can play on the posts, so he is really talented, and probably the most skilled guy if you think about his size, and what he can do with the ball.”

Davis notched up 40 points, his best performance so far in the playoffs, coupled with 10 rebounds, and 3 assists. But his dominant play and his hard-fought duel with Jokic weren’t enough to get the Lakers over the line.

Ahead of the Nuggets vs. Lakers ‘ final skirmish, the focus was pretty much on Jokic and Davis as the battle of the centers. Our very own Eddie Bitar drew an in-depth comparison between the two bigs and determined that Jokic was a better player than the Lakers’ superstar.

Even in our team vs. team comparison goes, the Nuggets come out with a clear advantage, primarily due to Jokic, who has been the team’s primary weapon.

Can Anthony Davis And LeBron James Get Past Nikola Jokic?

Davis’ monster 40-point performance suggests he means business and the center has made it clear that he and LeBron James want to win another championship together.

“Our guys, they’re hungry, they want it,” Davis said, according to Bleacher Report. “Just like me and Bron want another one. Now it’s time to go get it. Unfinished business. Now, we gotta go into Denver with that mindset.”

But it is easier said than done since the man standing in their way has been sensational throughout the season. Jokic was phenomenal in Game 1 with 34 points, 21 rebounds, and 14 assists to help the Nuggets win, and there is no doubt that he will be keen to reproduce this kind of production. He and the Nuggets are on a different side than they were when they faced the Lakers in 2020 in the bubble.

Only time will tell if Davis and James can get the better of the Serbian.
