The Orlando Magic showed genuine signs of progress this season with the emergence of a solid young core around Paolo Banchero.

Banchero won Rookie of the Year and is looking like the next franchise cornerstone for the Magic. But he would love to have another possible cornerstone be drafted this season if the Magic can jump to No. 1 and draft Victor Wembanyama

“If we were able to add that guy, I think it would take this team to another level. That guy’s a player who I don’t think people have seen before in terms of height and skill and movements. How he was able to move at that size, it really doesn’t make sense when you watch it. So whatever team gets him is gonna be lucky, but if we get him, I think it’s gonna cause a lot of problems for this league.”

The Orlando Magic have the sixth-best odds at landing Wembanyama right now, with a 9% chance at jumping up to the No. 1 pick. If they actually jump up and get Wembanyama, they may become the scariest young team in the NBA.

Best Landing Spots For Victor Wembanyama?

Currently, the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs all have a 14% chance of landing Wembanyama. The Charlotte Hornets have a 12.5% chance for the same, while the Portland Trail Blazers have a 10.5% chance. Any of these teams could end up winning the Wembanyama sweepstakes and changing the future of their franchise.

The Blazers and Magic are arguably the most ready-made spots for Wembanyama, as he can come in with his unique skill set and possibly contribute to a team with realistic chances at making the playoffs. The same could apply to the Pistons with their encouraging core and the return of star Cade Cunningham. The Rockets, Spurs, and Hornets have to do a lot more roster-wise to be competitive with Wemby in year one.

The French center didn’t want to go to a tanking team, so a team like the Magic that tried their best to maximize wins in the second half of the season may be the kind of team he’d like to play on.
