Before he landed in Miami, Jimmy Butler was used to wearing No. 23 in Minnesota and Philadelphia. He couldn’t do it in Chicago for obvious reasons, and after he was traded to the Heat, the same situation happened.

Butler was offered to wear this jersey but the player wasn’t cool with that idea, ultimately picking the No. 22 that he’s worn since 2019.

“You can’t wear 23 here because of MJ. Literally, Pat Riley retired it… Whenever I did come here, Pat told me that I could wear 23 but I said no. So 22 it is,” Butler recently revealed.

The Miami Heat decided to retire No. 23 out of respect for Jordan, who faced them many times in the playoffs. Ever since 2003, the Floridian team hung that jersey in the rafters.

Butler used this number in Minnesota and Philadelphia but everything changed when he came to the Heat. Curiously, if he can win it all with the Heat, he could get his jersey retired, next to MJ.

The Heat are making a lot of noise in the 2023 NBA postseason. Led by Butler, they’re now waiting to know their next rivals between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics.

Jimmy Butler Is Leading The Miami Heat In Another Deep Playoff Run

After beating the No. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks, the Heat took on the New York Knicks, getting rid of the New Yorkers in six games. Butler was on a tear again, leading his team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second season in a row.

Following a disappointing loss to the Boston Celtics last year, they’re ready to get revenge this season and return to the Finals for the first time since the 2020 Orlando bubble.

Butler is on a mission, and this time, Bam Adebayo is looking like he’s ready to help Jimmy out. If the big man can keep his level of play, Miami will be a threat to the rest of the East.
