Russell Westbrook Said He Could Beat LeBron James 1-On-1 In 2019: “LeBron James Would Not Win. And He’s A Good Friend Of Mine. But I’m Winning.”

Russell Westbrook has never hidden his confidence, as he shows no fear against any rival or situation. The 2017 NBA MVP has never backed down from a challenge and is always ready to make a case for himself in any hypothetical scenario.

Back in 2019, the then Oklahoma City Thunder player claimed he would beat LeBron James in a game of 1-on-1, boasting huge confidence while talking with actor/comedian Kevin Hart.

Brodie was a guest on Hart’s YouTube show ‘Cold As Balls,’ where he had the chance to discuss a variety of topics, including this interesting question about who would come out as a winner if he and LeBron played a 1-on-1 match. Russ explained that Bron was a good friend of his, but made it clear he wouldn’t let him win (10:38).

“LeBron James would not win, and he’s a good friend of mine,” Westbrook told Hart. “I’m just letting you know. I’m winning.”

Just like Kobe Bryant a couple of years ago, Westbrook was confident he could take on LeBron and actually beat him. We’ve seen many duels between them, including the 2012 NBA Finals, where Bron took over and led the Miami Heat to the glory, winning his first NBA title against the Thunder.

The season after Russ made those claims, he faced LeBron as part of the Houston Rockets, with James taking care of the Texans on his way to the championship in the infamous Orlando bubble. Then again, those weren’t one-on-one duels, so it’s unfair to compare them.

Now, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook are trying to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to the top spots of the Western Conference in the 2021/22 NBA season, although they have struggled to get things going at Crypto.com Arena.

Even though their fit hasn’t worked so well so far, they are still hopeful to turn things around and show the world that the Lakers have an incredible duo (and Big 3 once Anthony Davis returns from injury). Knowing how competitive these two are, people within the organization are confident they can find a way to be better.

After last night’s win over the Utah Jazz, where Westbrook went off, fans are hopeful that the Purple and Gold can compete this campaign. Time will tell if this isn’t a one-night thing, but if Westbrook plays the rest of the season as he played on Monday night, the Lakers’ chances will considerably increase.
