Scottie Pippen Clarifies His Comment Claiming That Michael Jordan “Ruined Basketball: “That Style Of Basketball Before The Triangle Was Put Was Not Winning Basketball.”

3 Min Read

One of the biggest things Scottie Pippen said about Michael Jordan in his recently published book ‘Unguarded’ was that MJ had ruined the game of basketball, picking LeBron James as the greatest player to ever do it since he does everything there’s to do on the court.

On the other side, Pippen claimed that Jordan didn’t want to do the dirty work on the floor, just wanted his teammates to get everything done for him to score points and get victories.

“I may go as far to say Mike ruined basketball,” Pippen wrote. “In the 80s on the playgrounds you’d have everyone moving the ball around — passing to help the team. That stopped in the 90s. Kids wanted to be ‘Like Mike.’ Well, Mike didn’t want to pass — didn’t want to rebound, or defend the best player. He wanted everything done for him. That’s why I always believed LeBron James was the greatest player this game has ever seen — he does everything and embodies what the game is truly about.”

The 6x NBA champion recently joined WGN News to discuss details about his book. Of course, he was inquired about his words for MJ and those comments saying his former teammate ruined the game.

He clarified by saying that before the triangle, Michael’s style of play wasn’t winning. After Phil Jackson took over, things changed and so did Jordan’s style. However, Pippen said he doesn’t consider the prior style as ‘ruining the game.’

“That style of basketball early on that Michael played before the triangle was put into the game. That type of basketball was not winning basketball. And I don’t consider you know, that ruining the game, but it’s not winning.”

Pippen has changed his mind a lot recently. It’s not only the part that he started attacking Jordan after becoming successful by his side but the fact that he’s changing the words he wrote in his book.

In the same interview, Pippen said he never called LeBron James the GOAT, yet everybody who read the piece saw the same thing. It’s really curious to see Pip doing this.

Several fans have attacked him for his antics, but he’s not stopping anytime soon. Scottie is enjoying being under the spotlight and we’re not sure when that will end. After all these years being the Robin to Jordan’s Batman, he decided to become a villain, shocking a lot of people in the process.
