Scottie Pippen could trash talk. Period. And one of the many opponents who had a taste of the Chicago Bulls legend’s sharp remarks was Utah Jazz star, Karl Malone.

Pippen had one of the greatest trash talk lines in the NBA when he took a shot at Malone saying, “The Mailman don’t deliver on Sunday”.

Speaking to ESPN’s Amin Elhassan and Nick Friedell, Pippen relived the time he told Malone. “I had my brother in town, my brother was the postman. So Karl Malone is at the line and I was pretty good friends with Karl actually. So I just walked by and said, ‘The mailman doesn’t deliver on Sunday.’ And to this day, I think it’s the greatest line in basketball.”

Scottie Pippen Relives The Iconic Line He Delivered To Karl Malone

Scottie Pippen’s trash talk to Malone will go down as one of the best one-liners in the league’s history, and the Bulls star was asked about it years after he called time on his decorated career.

The teams’ first meeting in the NBA Finals was a humdinger and the game was tied at 82 points with 9.2 seconds left in the game. Malone had a chance to put Utah up when he prepared to take two free throws, but that’s when Pippen chirped, prompting the forward to miss both his shots.

The timing was impeccable. The game was played on a Sunday at the United Center and Malone was nicknamed ‘The Mailman’ because he always delivered. But not that day, and it cost his team the first game. It ended with Jordan taking a mid-range jumper to pocket the contest.

It’s worth noting that Pippen even had a solid game to back it up. He ended his evening with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Malone had 23 points coupled with 15 boards and 3 assists.

The series ended 4-2 in favor of the Bulls who bagged their fifth ring. Jordan may have been the stone-cold killer in the series, but Pippen played his part in getting inside his opponents’ heads.
