As the NBA continues to take steps toward growth, the prospect of adding expansion teams grows more and more plausible. For now, even with the new CBA finally finalized, fans will have to wait for any new teams to enter the fold.
But if things work out, and the circumstances allow it, we could see an expansion franchise within the next 10 years. As noted by Shams Charania on the Pat McAfee show, Las Vegas and Seattle are at the top of the list.
“I don’t think an expansion team in the NBA is necessarily imminent, Shams said. “Do I think it happens this summer? I haven’t gotten that sense. I do believe Vegas is very very high on the list, Seattle is very very high on the list. So if I had to project which cities would be there for first dibs, Vegas and Seattle for sure. LeBron James, he’s talked about how he wants to be the owner of the Vegas team.”

Besides Vegas and Seattle, Mexico City is also generating a lot of traction as a future NBA home city and Adam Silver himself has confirmed they would be in consideration for an expansion team.
Still, Las Vegas is the top market for obvious reasons and it’s no secret that a current superstar player has dreams of building a Vegas franchise.
LeBron James Wants To Own Las Vegas Team
While an expansion may not be likely at this stage, it becomes much more likely if LeBron James is in the picture. He hasn’t yet retired, but it’s clear to everyone that he wants to help bring a team to the Vegas market.
“It’s the best fan base in the world, and I would love to bring a team here at some point. That would be amazing,” James said. “I know Adam is in Abu Dhabi right now, I believe, with the (Milwaukee Bucks) and (Atlanta Hawks), but he probably sees every single interview and transcript that comes through from NBA players. So I want the team here, Adam. Thank you.”
It will be some time before an expansion team is imminent, but the dream is not dead. As long as the NBA keeps growing and meeting its goals, it’s only a matter of time before an expansion tea is finally allowed to join.
