Louisiana State University won the NCAA Women’s National Championship in a game against the University of Iowa. The game was a classic and drew a lot of eyes from the NBA world, with star players Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark both showing out.

The victorious LSU team is set for a White House visit, but First Lady Jill Biden also extended an invite to Iowa. This has led to a backlash, including from Shannon Sharpe.

“Imma be respectful to the First Lady and I’m gonna not go as hard as I usually go out of respect for the position… But she needs to sit down,” Shannon Sharpe said on Undisputed. “What is this about? Now because the young ladies that won look like me and the people that lost look like her, now we gonna invite the runner-up.

“That’s a part about winning the national championship, it’s a part of winning the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA title. We get invited to the White House. The losers don’t get anything! This is not a participation award. And that’s what has watered down sports in America.”

This is an intense take from Sharpe, but he’s not entirely wrong about the situation. Questions regarding race are a delicate topic, but, the part about the losing team being invited is pretty spot on. The honor is reserved for champions, and it would make sense for it to stay that way as well. There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding this game.

LeBron James And Shaquille O’Neal Have Defended Angel Reese From Criticism

LSU’s star player, Angel Reese, came under fire after she taunted Iow star Caitlin Clark at the end of the game. And LeBron James was among those that stepped in to defend Reese from her detractors. He wasn’t the only one, with Shaquille O’Neal going after Dave Portnoy and Keith Olbermann on Twitter

The whole situation is far from a good one at the moment, which is sad considering that the game itself was really good. Angel Reese and the LSU team lit it up and ended up winning comfortably despite Iowa’s attempts to bring it back. Both Reese and Clark will surely be stars when and if they do decide to become professionals.
