Though the NBA is the most prominent professional basketball league in the world, there are other forms of basketball that people love to watch. College basketball for both men and women is highly watched in the United States, as many love the competitive and unpredictable nature of the sport.
Recently, we saw LSU defeat Iowa in women’s basketball with LSU player Angel Reese trash-talking opposing star Caitlin Clark. Several analysts have called her actions “classless” and unsportsmanlike. However, Shaquille O’Neal recently defended Reese against multiple analysts who have made those claims.

Caitlin Clark is a fantastic player that has also developed a reputation as a fantastic trash-talker. When one is willing to talk trash, one must also be willing to take it. Angel Reese’s trash talk to Clark was simply the product of a hyper-competitive game, and neither player felt as though what Reese did was out of line.
Caitlin Clark was spectacular throughout the tournament, and she’s a sensational player that could become a Stephen Curry-like influence in the NBA. Even though she dropped 30 points against LSU, Iowa was bested by them and Angel Reese, who scored 15 points and got 10 rebounds in the game. The LSU vs. Iowa National Championship game finished 85-102, with LSU winning the matchup.
LeBron James Has Also Defended Angel Reese
There is no doubt that Angel Reese’s actions toward Caitlin Clark have sparked a huge debate on social media, with a lot of prominent basketball figures weighing in with their opinions. LeBron James notably defended Angel Reese on Twitter, responding to a post that joked about how she showed her haters they were wrong.
In any sport, competitiveness is a part of it. There’s no doubt that the Iowa – LSU game was a high-stakes contest that brought the best out of every player on the court. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were both fantastic, but instead of focusing on the players’ actual performances, it seems as though a lot of the attention is on some competitive trash talk between two star-level players on rival teams.
It will be interesting to see if Caitlin Clark will provide comments about Angel Reese’s trash talk in the future. Generally, competitors are unbothered by opposing players engaging in that sort of behavior, and that is likely the same for Clark.
