Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most successful basketball players ever. He has managed to get pretty much every single individual award in the game. O’Neal is successful off the court as well and is widely regarded as a good businessman.

A lot of times, people think that just cause one is successful financially, they are consistently happy. However, that is certainly not the case. Shaquille O’Neal recently opened up on his divorce and the mistakes his younger self made. He noted that he had “the perfect situation” and “messed up” and also told a story about how “lost” he felt in a 76,000-square-foot house with nobody else around.

I had the perfect situation. Wife was finer than a mug. Kept giving me babies, still finer than a mug. I had it all… I don’t make excuses, I know I messed up.

When I didn’t have that, I don’t like to use the d-word (depression)… I was lost. 76000 square foot house by yourself, lost. No kids, go to the gym nobody playing there, go to their rooms nobody was there.

There is no doubt that separation from one’s partner can be difficult to get through. It is definitely tough moving on from a relationship/marriage that one has been in for a while, and it is even harder to not be able to see one’s children every day as a parent. There are times when even couples that are married for a long time decide to separate, and the process itself can take a toll on one’s mental health.

But part of growth is being able to recognize that one made mistakes that led to a conclusion, and it is clear that Shaquille O’Neal knows that he “messed up”. Shaquille O’Neal is someone that understands where he went wrong, and hopefully, he was able to learn from that.
