For almost two decades LeBron James has been consistently performing at an elite level. Despite that, each season there are always a few narratives about the downfall of LeBron. This season, like every other season, many doubted James at the start of the season.

The Lakers’ poor start to the season combined with LBJ being sidelined due to injuries played a prominent role in that narrative. The end result? Well, it led people to believe that the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is no longer a top-5 player in the league, let alone the best player in the league.

NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith was asked about his thoughts on this and gave a befitting reply in the interview. Smith revealed:

Absolutely. I would never ever disrespect LeBron James like that. He’s too phenomenal, he’s too great and I’m not just talking about his resume. Obviously with Russell Westbrook arriving in Los Angeles, with Anthony Davis looking to develop a perimeter shot because, for some reason, it has completely evaporated this season. LeBron James was trying to fit dudes in plus he had to miss 11 games due to injuries.”

Smith further said, “Over the last eight games, he has been relatively healthy and look at what he has done. LeBron James’ basketball IQ, his playmaking ability, his ability and willingness to lead and to absorb the responsibility. All of those things come with categorizing yourself as one of the great players in the game. He is clearly a top-5 player in the NBA today. There is no doubt about that.”

It is crazy to think that LeBron will soon turn 37-years-old. Looking at his game, when he is healthy, he is still doing great things. In fact, ever since his inclusion back on the Lakers’ roster, the team has been playing much better.

From barely managing to maintain a .500 record, the Lakers are now 16-13 while holding the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Moreover, the purple and gold are currently on a three-game winning streak.

With the form LeBron is in as of now, it will not be a surprise if the Lakers further increase their winning streak and turn the season around.
