Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant have been teammates before. For three years, they dominated the basketball world together, winning two titles and cementing their place in the NBA history books.

After the 2019 Finals, Durant ended up leaving the Warriors to team up with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn. Since then, Curry has been on his own with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. The result has been an impressive campaign from the Warriors, which ended with a championship victory.

But this summer, Durant had the opportunity to return to Golden State. And when asked by the team about Durant, Steph didn’t refuse the chance to reunite with his former teammate. In fact, he fully embraced the opportunity.

Stephen Curry Tells Snoop Dogg That Kevin Durant Should Stay In Brooklyn

Interestingly, however, Rolling Stone also revealed that Steph, in a conversation with legendary Hip-Hop icon Snoop Dogg, admitted that Durant was better off staying with the Nets than going anywhere else. Here’s what he said:

Curry also talked with his brother Seth, the Brooklyn Nets shooting guard, about a potential Durant recoupling. “For him to even be entertaining the thought of having KD back on the team kind of speaks to his character,” Seth told Rolling Stone on July 13. “Who knows? I might be in the trade with him.”

In the course of shadowing Curry last month, I observed him discussing the trade market for Durant with Snoop Dogg. Curry suggested that Durant had unrealistic expectations that his preferred destinations would retain superstar rosters, despite Brooklyn’s high asking price: “Man, he thinks that they’re gonna go to teams — like if he went to Phoenix — that they’re gonna be the same team if he’s there,” Curry told Snoop. Of the Boston Celtics, he said, “They have a little bit of everything, but they would have to deal with the organizational transition to get rid of Jaylen [Brown]. He’s such a pivotal piece.… If they would have done that—” Curry broke apart his fingertips in an explosion, and agreed with Snoop that Durant was better off staying with the Nets.

Ultimately, KD had no choice but to return to Brooklyn. With multiple years left on his deal, he had no leverage over the team and was forced to accept coming back to play. Even if he did get traded, whichever team that got him would have been severely weakened.

So, no matter which way you slice it, Seth was right. Durant was, and is, better off staying in Brooklyn. At least there, he can play and compete alongside his best friend. He can also compete for a title with one of the best rosters in the league.

As for Snoop, we know where his loyalties lie. He’s a Lakers fan for life, and he was a huge supporter of Kobe Bryant. He obviously wants Durant to stay with the Nets over anything. But it’s up to Durant to show Snoop that he can overcome all this chaos and deliver another great season for Brooklyn.

He, and the rest of the basketball world, will be watching to see what KD does this season and if he’s able to find success with Brooklyn after stirring up so much turmoil.
