The Golden State Warriors were in desperate need of a win in Game 4 and for the longest time, it seemed Stephen Curry was going to ensure they got it.
In the fourth quarter, however, Curry went cold, shooting 4-11 from the field. With the Warriors down 102-101 with less than 30 seconds remaining, he attempted two shots to take the lead and missed them both. Those misses now mean Curry has gone 0-14 on shots to take the lead in the final 50 seconds of playoff games, via Stathead.
The data goes back till 1997 and LeBron James, for all the talk of him not being clutch, has gotten it done quite often in the big moments. It is really surprising that Curry hasn’t even managed to hit one field goal. It would be unfair to say he always shrinks in the big moments considering he has shone in the playoffs recently, like against the Boston Celtics last year and in Game 7 against the Sacramento Kings.
Still, for someone who is clearly the greatest shooter ever, it is not a good look to keep missing these shots. He first missed an 18-footer in Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers, but Draymond Green getting an offensive rebound meant he got another chance. Instead of trying to get a good shot off though, he attempted a 30-foot three-pointer over Anthony Davis and missed. If he connects on either of those, this series might well be tied at 2-2 heading to the Bay, but instead, Golden State is now on the brink of elimination.
Stephen Curry Was Gassed By The End Of The Game
The only excuse you can perhaps give Curry here was that he looked exhausted by the end of the game. He ended up playing almost 42 minutes and was carrying the Warriors’ offense for much of it. He finished the night with 31 points, 14 assists, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals, but the efficiency just wasn’t there.
He shot 12-30 from the field and the Warriors aren’t going to win too many games when that happens. He’ll need to play out of his mind if they are to turn things around but he’ll also need his teammates to get going, as they have been pretty mediocre so far.
