Today, Stephen Curry is known for his insane shooting prowess from the deep. Curry currently holds the record for the most three-pointers ever, with 3,390 shots made in his career.

Evidently, he’s the perfect person to ask for a few tips when it comes to develop your range. Steph explained how he became an elite shooter in a Jan. 23, 2020, appearance on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast.

“My pops taught me the way to work on your game [is] to start in the paint,” Curry said. “Get your confidence to see how it goes, work your way out. I learned that from a young age. So, now everybody sees the finish result, and they want that, the process is just lost. So, hopefully, they understand that. Everybody can figure it out. It just takes some time.”

Stephen Curry’s father, Dell Curry, had a 16-year career in the NBA. Dell averaged 11.7 PPG, 2.4 RPG, and 1.8 APG while shooting at 45.7% from the field and 40.3% from the three-point line.

On the other hand, Steph has averaged 24.6 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 6.5 APG for his career while shooting 47.5% from the field and 42.8% from downtown.

Steph was mentored by Dell from a young age, and it helped him in honing his shooting skills. But Curry mentioned it still took him years to reach the level at which he is right now. Many aspiring basketball players want to skip that tough part and start chucking up shots like Curry. This only does more harm than good for their game.

Stephen Curry Revealed The Deadliest Sin In Basketball Shooting

If Stephen Curry knows the best practices to improve shooting, he’s also aware of the worst things a shooter can do.

The four-time NBA champion recently revealed the chicken wing shooting form is the biggest sin in basketball shooting. Curry explained the reason behind it is that the angle of the elbow is extremely wrong in this shooting form.

Apart from that, the 35-year-old believes kids should study Klay Thompson’s shooting form to improve. As per Curry, Klay has a very repeatable shooting form and it’s arguably the most textbook form.
