• NBA 2K24 has announced the inclusion of the ‘LeBron Era’ in MyNBA from 2011 onwards

• Stephen Curry fans aren’t happy at this being called the LeBron era because of his four title wins

• Both LeBron and Curry have each won four championships since 2011

NBA 2K24 announced the addition of the ‘LeBron James Era’ to their MyNBA mode, which features time-specific eras such as the Magic & Bird Era, Jordan Era, and Kobe Era. With the LeBron era being added, Stephen Curry‘s fans aren’t happy that his four title wins in this era are being ignored.

The fans were quick to break out Curry’s ring count.

People listed Curry’s statistics over the game’s LeBron era as proof for his case.

4x champion (Beat LeBron 3x)
2x MVP (1 Unanimous)
Finals MVP
2 scoring titles
6 finals appearances

Might be time to rename the era 🧐 pic.twitter.com/D035pDIkgc

Fans used LeBron’s 2016 win to illustrate why it’s his era.

LeBron James was so dominant in his era that a 73 win team with 3 hall of famers wasn’t enough to dethrone him. pic.twitter.com/KA2pIksOHe

With the lack of mention of Curry in the LeBron era graphic, fans think the developers intentionally left out 2015 to 2019.

They just skipped right over 2015-2019 lol at least do the Warriors era or the Steph vs Lebron era or something https://t.co/5Kfe2F1f0y

Another fan pointed out the ring count for Steph.

Steph made hoops the way it is today AND won the same amount of titles as LeBron in "The LeBron Era" 🤣🤣🤣 https://t.co/GuL10UzPRR

One fan rightfully questioned why other eras can have two stars, but the LeBron era can’t feature Steph.

Why its “Magic vs Larry” era when they only met in the finals 3x never back to back but it cant be Lebron vs Steph era when they met in the finals 4xs in a row?

What an era is named is pure marketing. James does have 9 Finals appearances in 10 seasons in this era and won four titles. He led every single one of his teams to the title, while Curry didn’t win his first Finals MVP until the 2022 Finals.

Very Few Eras Are Undisputed

Outside the Michael Jordan era, there is no single superstar that ruled over the NBA in an era. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson shared the limelight during their era, winning all but three titles from 1980 to 1991.

The Jordan era saw Hakeem Olajuwon‘s Rockets win two titles, but one of those years was with Jordan retiring and pursuing professional baseball. This is the only era you can say truly belonged to one player.

The Kobe era should be the most contentious. His first three titles came with Shaquille O’Neal as the primary star, winning all the Finals MVP awards during their three-peat. Meanwhile, Tim Duncan also won five titles at the same time Kobe was in the league. This era was the Kobe vs. Duncan era, more than Kobe alone, but Shaq was just as integral as the other two, minus the longevity.

The same goes for LeBron vs. Curry. They both are the headline names of this era. Unfortunately, Curry’s case as an individual player is hurt by the fact that he had Kevin Durant winning Finals MVP for two of his title wins and Andre Iguodala for one.

Meanwhile, James brought rings to three NBA franchises and picked up four Finals MVPs in all of his wins. He also played in virtually every Final of this era up until 2020, only missing the 2019 Finals where Curry’s Warriors lost to Kawhi Leonard’s Raptors.
