2 Min Read

Stephen Curry entered the NBA 12 years ago with certain expectations around him. The Davidson product was ready to make a statement with his shooting skills, but he looked tense during the entire ceremony.

The 2009 NBA draft saw many talents, including Blake Griffin, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, DeMar DeRozan, and Patty Mills. Curry was the 7th overall pick of the night, and he lived those moments passionately.

As he watched other players getting drafted, Curry looked tenser and tenser. The player was a little relaxed when the Warriors were on the clock; they only had Monta Ellis as their guard, which opened the door for the Chef.

The Dubs pulled the trigger and selected Curry, who was relieved to hear his name. This was a match made in heaven. Steph is the greatest Warriors of all time, the greatest shooter in NBA history, and one of the most influential players in league history.

He’s the best and most successful player of his draft class, which is a lot to say, seeing the type of talent we saw that year. Curry is already a legend, but he remains humble, just like he was the day he was drafted. His hard work and talent have taken him to where he is right now.

The No. 30 was welcomed with doubts, with analysts saying he needed to get better at creating his own shot and improve his shot selection. 12 years later, Curry is shooting from the logo, making those long-range like they’re a free throw.
