Kyrie Irving has been arguably the most talked-about NBA superstar in the past year or so. His continued unavailability during the 2021-22 season, thanks to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine was the initial talking point before his return coincided with James Harden’s request for a move away from the organization.

Irving then seemed to be back to his best for a while as he played in away games for the Nets but couldn’t quite gel with the team. He was part of the Nets’ embarrassing first-round sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics. The drama only worsened when the offseason began, with Kyrie reportedly trying to leverage the threat of leaving to get a big contract from the Nets.

After that didn’t work, and he opted into the final year of his deal, things seemed to be getting better before Kevin Durant’s trade request changed everything. Since then, Kyrie has been linked with trades again, most prominently regarding the Los Angeles Lakers, with a Russell Westbrook swap being spoken about in NBA circles.

However, Shams Charania has now dropped a bomb while talking on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’, suggesting that there is no traction on a deal of that sort with the Lakers at this time.

Pat McAfee: “Kyrie Irving, getting traded to the Lakers or not?”

Shams Charania: “There’s no traction on any type of a Lakers deal for Kyrie Irving, so there’s nothing new on that and I’m not quite sure we’re gonna see that take place.”

If Irving doesn’t land up on the Lakers, the team that, according to reports, has been the only one to show real interest in him, then it’s hard to see where the star point guard might end up. Potential trades are still being widely discussed, so it remains to be seen if anything changes on this front anytime soon.
