Speaking to the media following Indiana’s 142-132 loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday, rising star Tyrese Haliburton laid down the truth on his desire to win in the NBA. In one specific segment, he lamented his shortcomings and his status as a “loser” in his eyes.

“I just want to get to the playoffs, I’m not gonna lie,” said Hali. “All the individual stuff is cool and I’ve accomplished a lot individually already. Been an All-Star, which was a main goal of mine when I came to the NBA. Obviously, there’s more for me to achieve individually, but individual success is nothing at this point. I just want to win… I’m tired of being a loser.”

At this point, there is no question that Tyrese is one of the best guards in the East and maybe one of the game’s top 15 players right now. His role in leading the Pacers this year has been electric so far but the team has been pretty mediocre in the first few weeks with a record of 9-8 through 17 games. And while Haliburton has been taking care of business on his end, it’s clear that he’s no longer satisfied with mediocrity from the team.

Haliburton  Leading The Rise In Indiana

In the aftermath of the Paul George trade, the Indiana Pacers were preparing for a long and difficult rebuild but nobody could have predicted that they’d land Haliburton. As the 12th overall pick in 2020, he was projected as a star from day one and showed flashes of greatness during his short stint with the Kings. Over the past few years, he has taken his game to another level — to the point where the Pacers have crowned him as the face of their franchise.

With averages of 27 points, 11.8 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game on 51.9% shooting, Haliburton isn’t just an elite passer and playmaker, he’s also a very capable scorer and shooter who is currently operating the NBA’s best offense. At just 23 years old, Tyrese still has room to improve and if the Pacers can add more firepower to the roster, they could easily become a threat for the championship.

Pacers Are All-In For The In-Season Tournament

Interestingly, the Indiana Pacers are one of the teams who made the cut for the NBA’s elimination round of the in-season tournament. After going 4-0 in their group, the Pacers are set to host the Boston Celtics on Monday for a chance to advance to the semifinals in Las Vegas. At first glance, the Pacers may not look like favorites to win it all, especially in a bracket with teams like the Suns, Bucks, Lakers, and Kings. But the urge to win is strong with Haliburton, and there’s a chance he wills his team to an upset win.

Unfazed by the individual milestones, Tyrese is dead-set on breaking his losing streak, and where is a better place to start than the first-ever in-season tournament? With the whole world watching, Haliburton can make a statement this year and prove to everyone that he’s serious about winning in Indiana. But whether they win this tournament or not, the Pacers are coming and their star point guard is eager to start the process of winning on a more regular basis. It will be easier said than done, of course, but the Pacers have all the tools they need to be competitive for years to come.
