Tyrese Maxey got a true test of what’s it like being a star in the NBA when he led the 76ers into a game without reigning MVP Joel Embiid. The 76ers roster outside their top two is nothing to brag about, something Maxey realized as the 76ers were being hopelessly blown out by the Pelicans for most of their game tonight.

Maxey was seen talking to someone on the court, to whom Maxey brought up his points total for the night while complaining about the lack of help.

“What more do you want me to do? Look at how many points I got.”

Maxey had 33 points on the night, trying his best to put up points and compete with the Pelicans. However, he only had three assists as his teammates just weren’t consistent scorers on the night. They might have been even worse defensively, especially in the paint, allowing Zion Williamson to have 33 points on 11-12 shooting and Jonas Valunciunas to have 19 points on 8-9 shooting.

Maxey is having an All-Star year so far, but All-Stars often find themselves in positions like this. His slow start to the game didn’t help, as the 76ers entered the fourth quarter while trailing by 21 points. While they cut it down to 10 points, the 76ers simply stood no chance of leaving the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans with a win tonight.

Tyrese Maxey Getting Recognized As One Of The Best Guards In The NBA

Maxey proved to be a great player last season, having his first 20-point scoring season after solidifying himself as James Harden‘s backcourt partner. With Harden gone, Maxey has come into his own as the team’s starting point guard. He’s averaging 27.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists this season, proving himself to be among the best guards in the East.

Maxey was instrumental in the 76ers’ destruction of the Lakers on Monday as Philly pulled off a 44-point win. LeBron James was amazed by Maxey’s play, giving him major props on Instagram.

“Love this kid man! The work never lies and that’s why he’s so damn good. And more importantly, he’s a better person which is insane!”

The pair have shared a relationship in the past, with Maxey even sharing a hilarious story about working out with James. Maxey’s joining the group of extremely talented young guards in the NBA right now, but needs to be able to handle the pressure of needing to carry bad teams to wins alone.

Maxey called out his teammates pretty openly with his statement, implying he needed his teammates to help him. While that is 100% true, people aren’t always happy when star players complain about the load on their plate. Maxey is in the final year of his rookie contract, and stepping up to embrace challenges will further boost his likelihood of getting a maximum contract extension.
