Vanessa Bryant Saw Kobe Bryant Through The Hardest Of Times
Vanessa Bryant is making the most of her life after losing her husband Kobe Bryant almost four years ago in January 2020. With her daughters growing up and her carrying forward Kobe’s legacy, seeing her spend her time working for a good cause is incredible. It’s great she can still have fun as well, given how she grieved Kobe and her daughter Gigi’s loss.
Vanessa is the best person to speak about when it comes to understanding what basketball meant to Kobe. She has repeatedly spoken about the impact of the game on his life, even remarking about how hard it was for them to let it go when it was clear Kobe couldn’t play any further after 2016.
Despite the injuries piling up late in his career, Kobe was motivated to continue playing. That was because of his innate good nature wanting to give every paying fan a show. If there’s a game where Kobe’s team is playing, there’s a huge chance that most of the audience is there to see the mythical Black Mamba in action. Vanessa once explained how deeply Kobe loved his fans and how they motivated him to keep playing.
“One of the reasons why my husband played through injuries and pain was because he remembered being a little kid, sitting in the nosebleeds with his dad and watching his favorite player play. I remember asking him why he couldn’t just sit a game out because he was hurting. He said, ‘What about the fans that saved up to watch me play just once?’ He never forgot about his fans. If he could help it, he would play every minute of every game. He loved you all so much.”
Vanessa has shared countless Kobe stories over the last few years, with every story bringing the fans closer to the sensational player we saw dominate the NBA for two decades. Now, Vanessa is trying to do the best she can for her daughters and spends a lot of her time doing charity work.
She was awarded $30 million from Los Angeles County for inappropriate actions of responding officers to the scene of the helicopter crash that claimed her daughter and husband. She has since donated most of the award money to the Mamba and Mambacita Foundation, which was started in memory of Kobe and Gigi. Hopefully, their legacy continue to be strong, which it likely will with Vanessa doing what she can.
