Victor Wembanyama did his France teammate Rudy Gobert a favor. Ahead of their tune-up game against Nikola Jokic and Serbia, Wemby bent his knees while taking the French team picture so that his teammate Rudy Gobert would appear taller than him, in what was a really funny moment.

Wemby was clearly having some fun at Gobert’s expense, but Gobert is unlikely to take any offense to this. He and Wemby didn’t have the best night against Serbia. Wembanyama put up 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists, but ended the game with a plus/minus of -14. As for Gobert, he ended the game with just 3 points and 3 rebounds.

Nikola Jokic had another stellar performance for Serbia, putting up 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 1 assist as he led them to a 79-67 victory over the hosts. France will use this game as a learning experience going into the Paris Olympics, which kick off on the 26th of July.

France is considered one of the favorites in the tournament, thanks to the pair of Wembanyama and Gobert. Their role as the home team will garner them great fan interest, but that may not be enough to overcome the overwhelming strength of Team USA, who have built an incredible roster filled with NBA superstars to compete this year.

There have been questions asked about France’s style of play, especially with both Wembanyama and Gobert on the floor. While Wemby is a good shooter who can stretch the floor, he is not a three-point shooting expert, which will force France to play in the interior for most of their games.

How Far Can Victor Wembanyama Take France In The Olympics?

France’s hopes for a podium finish at the Olympics are on Victor Wembanyama’s shoulders. He is by far their best player and will be entrusted with carrying the load on both ends of the court. But aside from Wemby, France has assembled a very strong roster for this tournament.

Wembanyama is coming off an incredible rookie year in the NBA. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and finished second in the race for Defensive Player of the Year behind his French teammate Rudy Gobert. France having two of the best NBA defenders from last season is an incredible advantage for them.

Wemby showed how much his defensive presence can impact teams recently, when he stifled the entire Turkish national team when he was on the court, forcing them to go 1-24 from the field in a friendly game.

Wemby and France will be hoping to get the chance to face off against Team USA. Team USA is considered the betting favorite to win the gold medal at the Olympics this year. And so, Wemby will motivated to prove the experts wrong and defeat what many consider to be one of the greatest Olympic teams ever assembled.
