Draymond Green had one of his worst Finals performances in his career during Game 3 between the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors. Green fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter after being a massive liability for the 35 minutes that he played.

Green had just 2 points on the night, along with 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. The biggest statistical number on his box score is the number of fouls he committed with 6, as the Warriors fell to a 16-point loss in Game 3 to go down 2-1 in the series.

Certain plays throughout the game highlight Green’s unconventional playing style that is seeing him commit so many fouls. Draymond is showing a lot of aggression without being able to convert on any positive play on the court in the Finals series. He has as many fouls as points in the post-season, and this vicious box out on Jayson Tatum proves why.

Green is the vocal leader of the Warriors and brought intangibles to the team that the box score couldn’t show. But anyone who saw Game 3 could tell that the Warriors were struggling because of Green’s inability to out-rebound, defend, or score on the Celtics.

His massive contract will stand out going into the off-season if the Warriors fail to win a title, as league executives have started to become a little disgruntled with the Warriors freely spending money and going into the luxury tax. With the extension of Jordan Poole looming, the Warriors have to start looking at places where they can cut costs.

If Green keeps performing like this, he will either have to take a substantial pay cut when his current contract expires in 2024 or he will end up being moved somewhere else. The Warriors parting ways with Draymond sounds insane considering his loyalty, but the business may start becoming a bigger factor if the Warriors spent this much in salary just to have a $25 million player be a liability in a Finals loss.
