Zion Williamson is widely viewed as a future superstar and the best player on the New Orleans Pelicans. However, his commitment to the franchise has widely been questioned by outside observers.
One of the things that made people question Zion Williamson was him not reaching out to new teammate CJ McCollum when the latter ended up getting traded to New Orleans.
“I haven’t had conversations with him directly,” McCollum said. “I’ve spoken with some people close to him and look forward to sitting down with him sooner than later. I know about as much as you do right now, but I’m gonna get to the bottom of it.”
Zion Williamson has recently explained that he was focused on rehabbing, so he wasn’t able to immediately reach out to CJ McCollum. He also added that he was “mentally not in a good space” at the time. Andrew Lopez of ESPN relayed the news.
“Mr. McCollum. That’s just a little payback. Mr. ‘I’m going to get to the bottom of it,'” he said with a big smile. “CJ is a great dude. The short amount of time I have been around him, I’ve learned so much from him. Great teammate. I’m excited to get on the court with him.”
“Honestly, I was focused on rehabbing around that time,” Williamson said of not speaking to his new teammate right away. “I texted CJ shortly after to apologize about that. Like I said, I was mentally not in a good space. Mr. McCollum, he was cool about it. Like I said, I’m excited to get on the court again.”
While the New Orleans Pelicans were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the first round, they have a really bright future. They have an elite young core, headlined by Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson bring the New Orleans Pelicans back to contention next season. They could be a force to be reckoned with if things go right, and with Williamson, they could be a very dangerous team.
