Amid the NBA’s hiatus, the NBA community is on a mission to re-discover old footage. These days, it’s about all we can do to entertain ourselves.
The latest of these videos to surface is one of an 18-year-old LeBron James “complaining” about the price of gas for his $50,000 Hummer. The video, tweeted by ESPN, begins with an invite for the viewer to check out his Hummer H2. He puts on some tunes and says, ” This is Jay-Z right here. This right here is something y’all know nothing about. This is my man right here.”
It goes on and on until Bron says the $40 price to fill up his SUV is “killing him.”

Apparently, the Hummer was a gift from his mother, Gloria, who reportedly took out a loan to purchase the car. It’s fair to say he’s paid her back ten-fold for that.
But back then, with as famous as James was, it’s weird to think about him struggling to fill up his gas tank. Now worth at least hundreds of millions of dollars, it just kind of goes to show how far he has come. From a kid in Akron complaining about gas prices to a 35-year-old NBA superstar who is now the face of his own worldwide brand.
How many others have been through that journey?
