NBA Rumors: Suns And Thunder Discussing Chris Paul Trade

2 Min Read

The Phoenix Suns are pulling out all the stops to add talent and become a legitimate threat in the Western Conference. With Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, they have a talented core that is capable of great things.

Now, it seems they’re considering going after long-time NBA veteran Chris Paul. In a report by Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Suns and Thunder are in the middle of discussions for a potential deal.

The 35-year-old could make over $85 million over the next two seasons if he opts-in to his $44.2 million player option for the 2021-22 season. That’s a hefty price to pay for a guy with 15 years of experience under his belt.

Still, Paul has shown he can still be effective at this stage of his career. For the Thunder last season, he was the face and leader of the franchise, averaging 17.6 points, 6.7 assists, and 5 rebounds per game on 48.9% shooting.

In Phoenix, with Booker, the Suns would have a powerful offensive backcourt. The question is, who would they have to give up in a trade for CP3? If they’re able to keep their most important core members, it could go a long way in ending the franchise’s long streak of shortcomings.

We’ll see soon enough if and they’re able to strike a deal.
