The Los Angeles Lakers got a huge signing on Sunday when they landed Marc Gasol on a two-year deal. The Spanish big man was one of the most sought-after players in free agency and the Lakers were the winners of his signing. Gasol is an NBA champion, 3x All-Star and DPOY award winner. Even though he’s aging, he can be a great addition to any team and the Lakers are well aware of that.
This was a great move by the purple and gold and their fans don’t want things to stop there. In recent hours, fans have flooded social media with petitions asking the team to sign Pau Gasol, Marc’s older brother and a Lakers icon. Lakers fans have loved Gasol after he helped Kobe Bryant win back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010. The Spanish big man left his mark on the team and now, it really shows.
Lakers fans took to Twitter to ask the Lakers to sign the 40-year-old, at least for one day so he could retire as a Lakers. Others said he could be a 12th-15th man and still play 15 good minutes for the purple and gold.
If the Lakers sign Marc Gasol, I would like them to also sign Pau Gasol – at least for ceremony, so he can retire as a Laker. One of my favorite human beings to come across in my travels.

Not just ceremony, @EricPincus. No one can convince me that a healthy Pau Gasol can’t still play 15 good mins a game in the NBA. Let’s Gooooooo!!!! #LakeShow (cc: @JeanieBuss, @MagicJohnson, @Lakers) pic.twitter.com/kZbETJfQ4R

He could be the 12th-15th man, easily! Not just a coach this year!! I’m pretty sure he could put in a solid 8-16 minutes a game backing up his brother, AD, and Montrezl. Let’s do this, @paugasol! (cc: @MarcGasol: Bring your brother to practice!! Please, @JeanieBuss!)

Thank you @paugasol… @Lakers retire this #16 jersey already damnit! The man is a LEGEND and deserves to have his jersey in the rafters! Welcome back, Marc. All comes full circle 🙌🙏💜💛 pic.twitter.com/w2mzF1N9Xt

Guy can still play. He could be 15th man / Assistant Coach, and if he won a ring THAT way, that SHOULD be enough to push things over the top for a Jersey retirement, if anyone’s still arguing that point …

Needs to happen. He also deserves a statue outside of staples right next to Kobe’s #24 statue.

It could happen… He is one of the reasons, Marc is with us. You know our Lakers are family oriented, so both brothers would make history of winning Championships for the same Team in different stages of their careers. Feeling Kob helped us also to finalize our Roster.

This would be the best complement to Kobe because Pau truly deserves having his number retired without him no championship for the Lakers and with his brother on the team this comes full circle. Come on Jeanie get it done 🙏

It breaks my heart knowing he would’ve had Kobe induct him when he made the HOF and now we won’t get the chance to see it.

Pau could be this team’s version of Udonis Haslem.

Lakers likely wouldn’t have 2 of those 17 banners without @paugasol. 💜💛

Sign him for a day when @Lakers play Philadelphia. Pau can be put in the game to intentionally foul Dwight Howard and force him to make free throws.

I think it’s a great idea and overdue. went to the finals. 3 straight times and won two. That’s greatness.

Pau is so underrated.
Lakers, make this happen!!!

Pau was Kobe’s best teammate during the three straight NBA Finals appearances at the end of the 2000s and 2010s. This would be a nice gesture from the Lakers and seeing how they’re doing things in recent years, this wouldn’t be a surprise.
