Bill Russell is one of the most accomplished athletes not just in basketball but in all sports. He’s a legend that won 11 championships during his career. He was a 5-time MVP and led the league in rebounding 4 times.

From his time in the league, Bill Russell has certainly amassed a lot of memorabilia, such as his own game-worn jerseys. It seems as though he is planning to sell off a large portion of his collection on Friday in an auction at the T. D. Garden. Khari Thompson of Boston.com provided more information on the auction.

One thing remains the same, though: Russell is still one of the most decorated and respected athletes in American sports history. This week, he’ll be sharing some of his incomparable trove of treasures with fans.

Russell plans to sell off “a large portion” of his collection, including game-worn jerseys, championship rings, and items commemorating his activism for civil rights, at T.D. Garden on Friday. The event will be conducted by Hunt Auctions, which has handled auctions by legendary sports figures like Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and Roberto Clemente.

As mentioned by Thompson, Bill Russell will be auctioning his championship rings as well. It seems as though there is already a prominent figure that plans to purchase them. Shaquille O’Neal has recently revealed that “nobody’s outbidding” him when it comes to those rings.

To be able to have all 11 of those rings, nobody’s outbidding me on that one.

There is no doubt that the 11 championship rings would be amazing for any collector to have. After all, it’s not every day you get an item formerly owned by Bill Russell, especially his championship rings. They likely have a lot of value, and will hold their value due to their uniqueness.

We’ve often seen collector’s items sell for exorbitant amounts, such as Michael Jordan’s game-worn jersey from the Tar Heels. That is likely to be the same with Bill Russell’s items, and the championship rings won’t come cheap for Shaq.
