Could the Golden State Warriors be aiming for a reunion? According to Jake L. Fischer of the Stein Line, The Warriors decided against trading for Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine, the latter of whom got traded to the Kings last night. And as their Jimmy Butler quest ended, they did make inquiries about Kevin Durant‘s availability.
βThe Warriors, as Marc Stein reported, did not move forward with their own conversations regarding Chicago’s Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic this weekend, sources said, as Golden State continued to deliberate over the pursuit for Jimmy Butler and β wait for it β exploring the feasibility of reuniting Kevin Durant with Stephen Curry.β
He noted that the Warriors have quite a challenging task ahead of them if they want to land Kevin Durant. Fischer called the move ambitious but did add that the Warriors have been able to pull off unlikely moves in the past, including Durant’s original arrival at Golden State.
“Sources say the most ambitious idea being tossed around among Golden State’s decision-makers: Is there any feasible pathway for the Warriors to pull off the dreamiest of outcomes and find a way to bring both James and Durant to The Bay?”
“That would require quite the masterstroke. And while pulling that off currently stands as very unlikely, both from a salary-matching and asset valuation standpoint, this is the sort of big-game hunting that has defined these Warriors.”
When the Warriors inquired about Durant’s availability as far as a week ago, the Suns rebuffed them. However, the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis has shifted the landscape of the entire league. And now, the Suns are fielding calls for Durant, as they must realistically evaluate any and all options in front of them if they want a chance to save the immediate and long-term future of their franchise.
Warriors Also Interested In Zion, Ingram, And LaMelo
In a separate report from Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, it was noted that the Golden State Warriors have made it their priority to get Stephen Curry a second star, with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and LaMelo Ball‘s names being floated as potential options.
“The Warriors have made it their priority to get Curry more help in order to make a serious playoff push late in his career, resulting in several superstar talents emerging as trade targets. Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and LaMelo Ball are among the vast group of All-Star talents the Dubs have internally discussed before the trade deadline.”
These would be suitable options for the Warriors, but gambles nonetheless. Expect these names to float around if the Warriors are not able to land Kevin Durant in a trade with the Phoenix Suns. LaMelo Ball is a player the Warriors could have drafted in 2020 but passed him up for James Wiseman. No doubt that the Warriors regret that decision in hindsight.
The Warriors have three more days to figure out what they want to do, as the trade deadline is this Thursday. Stay tuned to Fadeaway World for all the latest updates, trade news, and best-in-class NBA analysis.
