Bobby Portis Reveals The Perks Of Being A Champion: “It’s Definitely A Crazy, Crazy Feeling.”

Posting and Toasting

Winning an NBA Championship is always a special moment in any players’ career. To lift that Larry O’Brien trophy is enough of a reward in itself, as it signifies the payoff of hours, and often years, of hard work and dedication to the game.

But there are some other awesome perks that come with winning a title. And for the Bucks, who won the Chip for the first time in 50 years, they are experiencing the joys of being a winner.

(The Athletic’s Shams Charania)

“Every time I go somewhere it’s like, ‘nah, I got it.’ Like the guy behind me might say he has it or the woman that’s been working at the restaurant might say they’re gonna take care of it. It’s definitely a crazy, crazy feeling,” said Bucks big man Bobby Portis

Portis went on to describe a specific experience he had at Walgreens, and how the 2021 Championship has literally changed life for him and his family.

“I went to a Walgreens a couple weeks ago and I ain’t pay for nothing at Walgreens, not always. … just go in, get out real fast. I tried to do that and the guy said he’ll handle it, and he worked there. It’s definitely been a crazy experience. Definitely life-changing for me and my family.”

Coming into the 2021 season, nobody expected the Bucks to go out and win the whole thing, not with the Nets and Lakers as they were constructed.

But credit has to be given to Milwaukee for overcoming the odds and proving all the doubters wrong.

The question now is, can they do it again?

With the opposition only getting stronger, it’s going to be harder than ever before to get a Ring. But with the culture they’re built in the franchise, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about what is to come.

I ain’t gone lie, I like Milwaukee. Milwaukee cool though, it’s better than people think it is. You know? It’s definitely better than people think it is. Obviously, like the big markets have the better food places, and the high-name food places and things like that, but being in Milwaukee is great. It’s great people there: sports town, they really love their sports. They love all the guys on the team– you know, sometimes you might go to a team where they only like the guys with the big names. You know, in Milwaukee, they love all of their guys. You go anywhere, you get love, people cheer for you, they got your back. They’re just fanatics, bro, you know. Sometimes there’s a difference between “he’s a fan” and “he’s a fanatic.” Theses guys really been fans forever, like generational fans, like passed down through the line fans. Like, “oh yeah, you from Wisconsin? You have to be a Packers/Bucks fan!” There is no other fans in Milwaukee than the Bucks and the Packers, so it’s fun man.

Obviously, it remains to be seen what the Bucks can do going forward. But, at the very least, you can bet they’ll be competing with the best of them.
