Clint Capela is one of the best centers in the NBA as of now. The 27-year-old had a phenomenal last season, averaging a double-double with 15.2 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. As a result, the Atlanta Hawks exceeded many expectations in the postseason.
Following this fabulous season, the organization must be pretty impressed by Capela’s productions. He recently signed a huge 2-year contract extension worth $46 million.
Quite understandably, many sports pundits and fans raised their eyebrows when this news broke out. But according to Kendrick Perkins, Capela has earned each and every penny of his colossal contract extension. Perkins tweeted:

Last season, Capela left the Houston Rockets after spending six seasons with the franchise. Since the Rockets are probably going to rebuild, it made sense for the big man to make a switch in his career.
However, when it was revealed that he would be donning an Atlanta Hawks jersey, most took it with a pinch of salt. Capela proved his doubters wrong and helped the team reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
For some time, it felt like the Hawks might even make it to the NBA Finals. Anyway, with the new season right around the corner, the franchise decided to reward him.
If Capela can average numbers similar to the last season, it will be exciting to see how far the Hawks can go this time around. At the end of the day, the Eastern Conference is now pretty competitive as well.
Although the Hawks made it to ECF in the 2021 postseason, they are still not the favorites to repeat that success. Teams like the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and of course the Brooklyn Nets will all be fighting for a chance to represent their conference in the 2022 NBA Finals.
