Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took his next step toward superstardom this past week with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He signed a max extension with OKC worth $172 million over 5 years. Shai will continue to play for OKC as they continue their rebuilding process around their budding star.

Shai has proven that he is one of the best young players in the league over the last two seasons, especially since he arrived in OKC after the Paul George trade in 2019. So for SGA, he has earned his extension and will want to continue finding more success in his career as he earns more minutes and becomes the face of the Thunder franchise.

And it appears one of his former teammates has noticed SGA signing his huge extension with OKC. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took to Instagram to commemorate his new contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Shai posted pictures from his time at OKC, including some fan art about the same. In the comments section of the post, Shai’s former teammate Dennis Schroder commented that he was happy for Shai securing a solid payday for himself.

Dennis Schroder, who played with Shai in Oklahoma City during the 2019-20 season. Schroder had a great season in his own right, becoming one of the frontrunners for the Sixth Man Of The Year award. Eventually, Schroder secured a move to the Los Angeles Lakers via a trade.

While SGA got himself a solid payday, Schroder isn’t having similar luck. Schroder initially was offered an $80 million contract offer from the Lakers, but he rejected it, wanting a bigger deal in free agency. After a poor showing with the Lakers, his hopes of getting a $100 million contract from the Lakers or any other team are almost none. But Schroder is a talented guard, so he will be able to find a team, albeit on a lower salary than once anticipated.
