Point guard Dennis Schroder is one of the players that could leave the Los Angeles Lakers when it comes to free agency, and that would mean that the Lakers would have a hole at the point guard position. They will certainly need a replacement, and Marc Spears has reported that Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook could be among their targets.
According to sources, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have been on the hunt for veteran point guard, and Paul is on the list. There have also been talks about Washington Wizards star Russell Westbrook being a potential candidate to move back home to Los Angeles in a sign-and-trade deal that could include free agent point guard Dennis Schroder, forward Kyle Kuzma and guard Talen Horton-Tucker, sources said.
While Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook have different styles when it comes to the point guard position, both could be the third scorer on the Los Angeles Lakers and provide supplementary playmaking from the guard position. LeBron James will obviously be the primary ballhandler for the team, but the team needs somebody who can get other players easy shots when James is taking a break.
Chris Paul will be a free agent, so it is possible that the Los Angeles Lakers could flat out sign him, depending on the deal he commands. Chris Paul is notably close friends with LeBron James. Russell Westbrook would require a trade, but it is unclear whether the Washington Wizards would end up accepting the trade package from the Lakers. It remains to be seen whether the Los Angeles Lakers acquire either point guard, but both would be solid additions to the team.
