Brian Windhorst engaged in a very heated debate with ESPN writer Tim Bontemps over one of the hottest topics in the NBA right now, the 2021 MVP award. Given all the changes we’ve seen this season, nobody really knows who deserves to take the award home and these two debated about it, using big words to describe each other while making their case.
During a recent edition of the ‘Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective’ podcast, things got out of control between these two while discussing the ESPN poll that put Nikola Jokic as the biggest favorite to win the coveted award this season. Windhorst said that LeBron James is the clear-cut candidate to win the award regardless of what the rest of his colleagues said, which didn’t sit well with the other writer. After that, things only got worse.
“You can make up facts and yell like people on Twitter,” Bontemps told Windhorst. “You just said ‘LeBron had a significant lead.’ That is a lie.”
Windhorst wasn’t backing down and he explained what actually matters to him when deciding who is going to win the MVP award.
Bontemps: The race was tied two months ago
Windhorst: The race wasn’t tied, LeBron had a significant advantage.
Bontemps: No he didn’t, you can’t make up facts now and yell like people on Twitter…You just said LeBron had a significant lead and that is a lie.
Windhorst: I don’t give a flying bleep about the polling points, I know you put the total points in there and that matters to you, the only thing that matters to me is first-place votes. How many first-place votes did LeBron have?
Bontemps: I’m not going to bother looking it up, he was barely ahead.
Windhorst: There’s no way that’s true
Bontemps was really mad at Windhorst and told him that he can make the rules for his polls but next time, he should pay more attention to those who answer the questions since he was missing a lot. Tim even called his co-worker a ‘jackass’.
Windhorst: LeBron was way ahead and it was not a three-way race.
Bontemps: You can make up the rules to poll if you want, you want to do the poll in the future?
Windhorst: No, I’m glad that you do it.
Bontemps: Okay, then maybe you should actually listen to people because you’re being a jackass

This was a helluva exchange between these two, who had exchanged subtle jabs in the past but now things reached a new level. It’s unclear if they settled things after the podcast was over but they left us a very entertaining and shocking moment to remember.
