The Best 3-And-D Wing Targets For The Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have just signed Andre Drummond, addressing one of their roster needs. They still have another spot on the roster, meaning that they could potentially acquire a player to address their need for a 3-and-D wing. A 3-and-D wing will improve the spacing around Anthony Davis and LeBron James and add to the Lakers’ already elite defense.

The Los Angeles Lakers would be a good destination for a veteran, and there are a lot of 3-and-D wing options that they could target. 3-and-D wings are players that can be crucial to a team with superstars. With that being said, here are the best 3-and-D wing targets for the Los Angeles Lakers.

5. Glenn Robinson III

Glenn Robinson was released by the Sacramento Kings earlier this season, but he is a solid 3-and-D player that knows how to fit a role. He shoots 36.4% from beyond the arc for the season, making him a solid enough shooter to deserve a roster spot.

Glenn Robinson would receive fairly limited minutes, but he can be impactful if he simply knocks down a couple of threes. Aside from his spacing, Robinson is also a solid enough defender, able to guard either wing position on the perimeter. Robinson is a pretty solid player, but would likely be an option only if the Los Angeles Lakers can’t get a proven veteran with experience.

4. Wilson Chandler

Wilson Chandler last played for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2019-20 season. Chandler is a great defender who can guard multiple positions, while also spacing the floor at an okay level. Chandler shoots 34.1% from beyond the arc for his career, which is solid enough.

Wilson Chandler would be a good addition due to his experience and defense. He is a player that can help the bench unit, and potentially soak up some minutes while LeBron James is out. If the Lakers target him, Wilson Chandler could potentially revisit an NBA opportunity, after spending some time in the CBA.

3. Maurice Harkless

Maurice Harkless is mostly known as a defender, but he has some ability to shoot from beyond the arc. While he isn’t the type of player to take many threes. He is only attempting one 3PT shot a game. but is knocking down his attempts at a 41.7% clip. Maurice Harkless likely won’t have a large offensive role, but can definitely hit shots wide open.

Maurice Harkless would add another multi-positional defender to the Los Angeles Lakers. Switchability is important in the modern NBA, and Harkless can switch onto most positions except center comfortably. Harkless has also had experience in the playoffs during his time with Portland, so he could potentially be a good candidate for the last roster slot.

2. DeMarre Carroll

DeMarre Carroll is a forward who last suited up for the Houston Rockets during the 2019-20 season. Carroll is a player who is effective on both ends of the floor, knocking down open jumpers, while also playing guarding multiple positions. Carroll even had a short stint as a small-ball center with the Houston Rockets.

Carroll is a player who has taken part in plenty of playoff series with teams such as the Atlanta Hawks and the Toronto Raptors. He is a capable wing that brings it on both ends: while he isn’t as good as he used to be with the Hawks, he can definitely knock down the open jumpers that will be created by the offensive gravity of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

1. Otto Porter Jr.

Otto Porter

Otto Porter Jr. is the best target on this list. Porter has recently been traded to the Orlando Magic as part of the Nikola Vucevic deal, but it is quite possible that he will get bought out, as the Orlando Magic are clearly rebuilding. Otto Porter Jr. averaged 40% from beyond the arc on 3.8 attempts during his time with the Chicago Bulls this season.

If Porter gets bought out, then he could potentially be the best 3-and-D wing that the Lakers would have the ability to pick up. Porter is still in the middle of his prime and is a fairly athletic defender that can guard top-tier wings in spurts. If the Lakers do end up adding someone to the team, then Otto Porter Jr. is the perfect candidate.
