The Charlotte Hornets are having a very good season right now, ranking 6th in the Eastern Conference with an 18-18 record. They have been playing great basketball this campaign, led by Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward, and young talent like LaMelo Ball.

It’s been a long journey for the Hornets but they’re happy to be improving their game and seeing that the future looks very promising for them. People have praised Michael Jordan for the good season his team is having after struggling in the last couple of years but there is somebody who also deserves credit for the good moves he’s made with this organization. Mitch Kupchak left the Los Angeles Lakers with plenty of criticism around him.

Well, things have changed for him in North Carolina, as you can see now with the talented Hornets. They are a really fun team to watch and that’s because Kupchak found the right pieces to build a competitive squad, especially via trade. Jonathan Tjarks recently talked about this on The Ringer NBA show, crediting the executive for the Hornets’ recent picks and how he built this team.

“The nice thing about Charlotte is that they have so many good young players. They hired Mitch Kupchak, the old Lakers GM 3 years ago and pretty much all his picks have been good. He picked Miles Bridges, PJ Washington, LaMelo – great 1st round picks. 2nd round: Devonte Graham, fantastic pick. Cody Martin, good player. He’s just knocking out picks left and right. Mitch Kupchak, he hits doubles when he hits doubles, singles when he hits singles and he got a home run with LaMelo Ball.”

Kupchak has exceeded in his role with the Hornets and this team is ready to keep improving in the next years. They know they have something special with LaMelo and if they’re able to attract more important players to the Spectrum Center, things will be a lot better for this organization. They started pretty well but it’s time to take the next step.
