NBA Executive Says The Wizards Should Trade Russell Westbrook Before The Deadline

2 Min Read

The Washington WIzardss are still working to climb themselves out of their sub-.500 hole. But with the trade deadline quickly approaching, will the team have to press on without one of their top stars?

According to one league executive (who remains anonymous), the Wizards should look to trade their starting point guard Russell Westbrook sometime in the coming weeks, while his trade value remains relatively high.

“Russell Westbrook has looked like his old self recently. That version of Westbrook can be a franchise player. With his play improving, they should look to deal him to anyone will give them some value ahead of the deadline. He is nothing close to a long-term option for Washington.”

After a slow start, Russ has turned it on this campaign, averaging 20.3 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.7 rebounds per game on 42.8% shooting.

Recently, his efficiency and ball-handling have improved, as has Washington’s record, which no longer stands as the worst in the East.

At 32-years-old, it is true that Russ’ trade value might never be higher than it is right now. But would any offer be worth it for Washington? With the team finally showing signs of life, trading away your second-best player might not be the best idea, especially if it’s only for role-players and picks.

Needless to say, we’ll find out soon what the Wizards are going to do with their roster.
