Colin Cowherd Criticizes Blake Griffin: “Great Athlete But I’ve Never Considered Him A Great Basketball Player.”

You know what they say: The rich get richer, or at least, that seems to be the case with the Brooklyn Nets, as they just signed Blake Griffin.

Obviously, Griffin is no longer the high-flying star he was during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers but we’re still talking about a six-time All-Star who’s going to join Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. That just doesn’t seem fair.

Nonetheless, Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd is unfazed by Griffin’s signing, as he believes that he doesn’t bring anything to the table beside his athleticism:

“He’s the classic example, Blake Griffin, to me. Great athlete… but I’ve considered him a great basketball player,” Cowherd said. “Chris Paul is a great basketball player. Not nearly as great an athlete. And I think sometimes we fall in love with that. It’s a high-flying slam dunk. Blake Griffin was just a highlight reel. But what I like about Zion Williamson, I see nuance to his game. Now the Pelicans are letting him bring the ball up the floor and direct the offense. Blake Griffin will help Brooklyn. He’s some more points. But he was one of those I really feel right about. I used to call him the NBA’s best pro beach volleyball players. He was good for dunks and that was about it,” Cowherd said.

Even if that’s the case, then the Nets shouldn’t be worried. Griffin hasn’t dunked since 2019 and has clearly lost some explosiveness. Then again, he’s still an accomplished player that will find a way to contribute.

Worst-case-scenario, Griffin is another presence off the bench for an already impressive offense. I mean, he’s not going to help with their rim-protection woes, but he’s not going to make them worst either.

Griffin has been used to criticism ever since he made it to the NBA but now that he won’t be asked to be ‘the man’, perhaps he’ll finally silence his critics once and for all.
