Stephen Curry botched a potential game-winning shot and the Golden State Warriors couldn’t hold on to beat the Portland Trail Blazers right now.
Even so, Curry was as good as ever with a 35-point piece on 13/28 shooting to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists, taking his season averages to 29.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game on 47.8/41.1/93.4 shooting.
Those kinds of Herculean performances have turned a lot of heads around the league, and that’s why Carmelo Anthony had no choice but to take his hat off to the two-time MVP, claiming that he’s still surprised by the way he plays and controls the game:
“The way the game is now, this is his pace. He’s a focal point, and he’s going out there, and he’s putting that team on his back. He’s still who he is, right? He’s still Steph Curry. He’s out there sometimes, you’re in awe watching him play, the shots that he makes, the shots that he takes. It’s just great to watch,” Anthony said about Curry in a videoconference after the game, as quoted by NBC Sports.
Curry is one of the greatest and most influential scorers of all time and, now that people were questioned his legacy, he’s taking his game to the same MVP level he had several seasons ago.
Then again, he needs the rest of his team to step up. Last night, no other Warriors topped the 15-point mark, and that’s become a worrying trend right now.
No one can win on his own, regardless of how good he is. The Warriors need to evaluate making a couple of moves ahead of the trade deadline, as Curry shouldn’t have to score 40 points per game just for them to barely win some games. But hey, that’s just a testament to how important and good he is.
