Doris Burke On Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Defensive Effort Against Kawhi Leonard: “It’s Not Just When You Come; It’s How Hard You Come.”

2 Min Read

Doris Burke is one of the most famous female voices in the NBA and whenever she speaks everybody listens. The 55-year-old was the commentator of the Milwaukee Bucks-Los Angeles Clippers game on Sunday, always delivering thoughtful takes and making you understand a little more about the game. However, she starred in a very curious moment that caught the attention of a lot of fans.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks took down a very good team in the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, with the Greek player having a terrific performance to lift his team over the Angelenos squad, one of the best teams in the league right now.

Antetokounmpo wasn’t afraid of the challenge and he went at it with everything, taking on Kawhi Leonard on the defensive end and doing a great job against the 2x NBA champion. Giannis’ defensive work was really admirable and Burke tried to point that out. Her words, though, were a little misinterpreted by a lot of fans after she praised Giannis for his defense on Leonard at a certain play.

“It’s not just when you come; it’s how hard you come. Are you coming when the dribble is dead? Are you coming when he gets into his shooting motion?” Burke said, explaining how opportune Giannis’ defense on Kawhi was.

This sparked something inside NBA fans, who didn’t miss their chance to joke with this, mocking Burke’s words and taking them to a different context.

They even remembered the time Kenny Smith made a statement very similar to Doris’.

It was one of those moments that you never expect and they happen. Doris couldn’t be more professional than she was but NBA fans are something else and they will create something where there’s nothing.
