Trae Young Wants To Be No. 1 Shoe Seller With Restructured Adidas Deal

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young has a whole lot going for him. Young is a newly minted All-Star after the 2019-20 season, after averaging 29.6 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 9.3 APG. While he may not have gotten an All-NBA selection this year, those numbers bode well for the future. After Trae Young’s blistering season, other dividends from his amazing year included some off the court opportunities.

An article by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported that Trae Young restructured his deal with Adidas: his new deal includes a signature shoe that comes out in 2021. Trae Young has shown himself to be good enough to be a fixture in future All-Star talks, and rewarding him with a signature shoe will allow Adidas to keep developing their relationship with the amazing point guard. It is nice to see Young’s achievements on the court being recognized off of it.

Young is looking at the new generation of young hoopers to be the ones wearing his shoes: the Athletic stated that we should “expect to see unique designs with his shoes that appeal to younger kids”. That is a smart marketing plan: the next generation will be taking notes on Trae Young’s game the same way he did with Stephen Curry. Young has an opportunity to build a massive and unique brand for himself.

Trae Young’s ambition is sky-high: Kirschner reported Trae Young’s father Ray Young as saying that Trae Young “wants to be the No. 1 shoe seller in the league”. That is a lofty aspiration, but Trae Young is a pretty popular basketball player and the fact that he’s getting a signature shoe only a few years into the league means that Adidas must think he is quite the unique talent. While Young’s goal of being the No.1 shoe-seller may seem far away now, it might approach sooner than we expect.
