Steve Nash has given excellent news to the Brooklyn Nets fans as he’s thinking about bringing back the seven-second-or-less offense to the Nets. Nash played a key role in the offense implemented by Mike D’Antoni in the Phoenix Suns in the 2000s and now he wants to do the same with the Nets, one of the most talented teams in the NBA.
Led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn has a big chance to compete for the title and Nash is planning to use some old tactics to bring out the best of his players. The rookie head coach recently said the Nets are going to play at a very fast pace this upcoming NBA season.
“We want to play an uptempo style. We want to push the ball in transition and play in the open court, and in the half-court we want to make quick decisions, space the floor, take advantage of our playmaking and shooting,” new Nets head coach Steve Nash told reporters (per CLNS Media). “We have some centers that are vertical threats, so we can really put pressure on people above the rim, but also stretch them and make the court big and difficult to cover.
“I definitely think there’ll be similarities (to the seven seconds or less Suns). But I also think clearly the way we played in Phoenix is very common in today’s game.”
This season we will finally see Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving sharing touches on the Nets and fans can’t be happier about it. KD missed the entire 2019/20 season after getting hurt in the 2019 NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors. He’s fully healthy and ready to demonstrate that he can win without the help of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Nash has big plans for his team and knowing the style of plays of KD and Irving, this is a great idea for Brooklyn. Plus, they’ll have Mike D’Antoni, the creator of this offense, as assistant coach this season.
