For angry Lakers fans still waiting for an apology from Danny Green: you can forget it.
In an appearance on The Ringer, Lakers guard Danny Green confirmed he isn’t and never planned to deliver on the request of some fans who felt he should have written them an apology for his miss at the end of Game 5 in the Finals:
“You know human nature of fans, they’re just very emotional. They take the game very serious and they see us as performers and if we’re not performing the way we’re supposed to then we’re supposed to apologize for it. No, I don’t owe you an apology. Whether I played shitty or not. You’re not my boss, coach, and I’m not gonna apologize for missing shots. I’ll apologize to my teammates for missed mistakes, missed assignments, if I mess up a play or defensively don’t make a rotation. But no, I don’t owe you anything.”
For those having trouble remembering, Green was struggling to find his shot in the 2020 postseason — much to the displeasure of fans, who berated him with memes, jokes, insults, and even threats to vent their frustrations.
His missed three-pointer during Game 5 of the Finals was the last straw for many.
The Lakers would obviously go on to win the title the very next game, and most seem to have pushed all the bitterness aside for now.
As for Danny, he’ll continue to work on his game, bond with his teammates, and prepare for what will likely be a bounce-back year for him.
