Carmelo Anthony’s Former Coach George Karl Gives Him Advice On Where To Go In 2020 Free Agency: “I Would Recommend Him Going Back To Portland.”

After a productive season with the Portland Trail Blazers, Carmelo Anthony enters a season of uncertainty as he determines his next steps.

Even as many teams consider a pursuit for his services, one of Melo’s former coaches (George Karl), explained why returning to the Blazers is in the best interest of the 10x All-Star.

“I think he fits in Portland. It seems like he and Jerry have a connection at a communication level that I haven’t seen with Melo in a lot of his stops along the way in his career,” Karl told Justin Termine and Eddie Johnson of SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“He fit with the team. Why try to figure out some place else when you got a good place, good team that’s close to being a really good. I would recommend him going back to Portland because the other things no matter what you think you’re somewhat guessing that you’re gonna work as good in New York or as good as in wherever as you work in Portland.

“What you got in Portland you know you got it. The other places you’re gonna have to fit a little bit. I wouldn’t take that chance at this stage in his career.”

After a year of exile from the NBA, Anthony was picked up by the Blazers in November after a series of injuries compromised their wing depth. In 58 games, Anthony averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 43% shooting.

Portland fell short of their goal to win a title but with Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, and Jusuf Nurkic, they should remain a threat in the West for years to come.

Of course, Rip City isn’t the only team connected to the star, as the Kings, Knicks, and Lakers have all been reported to show some level of interest in him.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
