Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Throws Major Shade At Houston Rockets

The Golden State Warriors have a bit of history when it comes to the boys in red.

Having faced off against the Rockets multiple times int he postseason over the last few years, it’s fair to say the two teams are very familiar with each other.

So when Steve Kerr took a pretty clear shot at the Rockets in an interview with The Athletic, it caught the eye of many within the community. Speaking on the team identity heading into the 2020-21 season, Kerr said his team will continue to play their way, followed by an assurance that they would not “turn into the Rockets” and orchestrate everything around one single guy.

“We’re still gonna be the Warriors,” Kerr said, via The Athletic. “We’re not gonna turn into the Rockets and change our offense and have one guy go high pick-and-roll 70 times a game.”

Obviously, Kerr is referencing Houston’s heavy reliance on James Harden, who handles a large chunk of ball-handling duties for his club

The Warriors have never played that style of ball, despite having two of the best shooters to ever play the game. Instead, they believe in a system in which everyone can thrive through ball movement, communication, and trust. Having just finished the season with the worst record in the NBA, they hope that their system and identity (coupled with the return of their backcourt duo) will be enough to put them back in Championship contention.

Considering their track record, it’s best to give them the benefit of the doubt in this case.
