NBA Rumors: Bucks Are “Confident” Giannis Antetokounmpo Will Sign Supermax Extension

2 Min Read

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks suffered a brutal elimination by the Miami Heat this postseason.

Failing to meet expectations for the second year in a row, many have questioned the future of the team and the future of their MVP. Will he stay with the franchise if they fail to win next season?

Apparently, the Bucks seem to think he’ll be staying and are “confident” he’ll be signing a supermax within the next year.

“The Bucks have every reason to be concerned here, if only because the outcome of this season inevitably means Antetokounmpo will have to reconcile all of his doubts,” Amick and Nehm write. “But in terms of the reading of the proverbial room, a source with knowledge of the Bucks’ perspective said they’ve had confidence for quite some time now that Antetokounmpo would sign the supermax.”

This news comes after a recent meeting between Giannis and team ownership, which seems to have been a positive one for both sides.

“Sources say all parties left in good spirits and with a sense of synergy that the Bucks certainly hope continues. The meeting between Antetokounmpo and Lasry does not solidify Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee, but it does serve as an important first step in one of the most important offseasons in the franchise’s history.”

Giannis’ move still remains uncertain, and the Bucks have their work cut out for them if they want to win a Championship next season.

But loyalty seems to be an important value for Giannis and, even if Milwaukee falls short again next season, there is no guarantee he’ll skip town. The Bucks, for one, are confident they’ve got him for good.

For their sake, they better be right.
