Notable NBA Streaks That Ended In 2020

Making it to the NBA is hard but standing out from the rest of the pack is even harder. I mean, not many players or teams can brag about having a streak that’s worthy of mentioning when discussing the most impressive records or milestones in NBA history.

Contents
  • Patrick McCaw’s 3 Rings In A Row
  • San Antonio Spurs’ 22 Straight Years Making The Playoffs
  • JJ Redick’s 13-Year Playoff Streak

But even good and impressive things come to an end rather than later. Even if you think that players or teams are in complete control of their destiny, the NBA has shown us over and over that everything can change in the blink of an eye.

Either because of luck, underperforming, a team that comes from behind to shock the world, you name it, a notable streak can come to an end in a heartbeat in the best basketball in the league. Today, we’ll show you the three notable NBA streaks that came to an end in 2020.

Patrick McCaw’s 3 Rings In A Row

Well, Patrick McCaw may not be a superstar but he already has more silverware than 99% of the active NBA players. In fact, he became the first player to win three straight NBA Championships since Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant led the Lakers to a three-peat in the early ’00s.

McCaw may not have had a huge role in the three straight rings (2 with the Golden State Warriors, 1 with the Toronto Raptors) but he still earned his stripes. And now that the Raptors were knocked out of the playoffs, his streak came to an end.

San Antonio Spurs’ 22 Straight Years Making The Playoffs

DeMar DeRozan

The San Antonio Spurs have been a synonym to success for over two decades. Even if Gregg Popovich’s tenure in charge of the team got off to a rough start, they later set the standard for what was needed to become a truly winning organization.

There were a lot of doubts regarding the Spurs’ ability to make the playoffs this season, especially after losing LaMarcus Aldridge for the restart of the campaign. Unfortunately, those doubters were wrong, as their 22-year streak is now over.

JJ Redick’s 13-Year Playoff Streak

J.J. Redick

JJ Redick made it to the NBA in 2006 and had made the playoffs every single year since coming out of Duke University. In fact, he had never missed the postseason ever since he was playing for Cave Spring Highschool in Virginia.

Redick’s streak came to an end as the New Orleans Pelicans blew a huge chance to make the playoffs despite having the easiest schedule in the bubble. Now, there’s uncertainty regarding the veteran sharpshooter’s future but he’ll be at the top of most contending team’s wishlist for sure.
