Rajon Rondo reportedly suffered a hand injury on Sunday and will miss from 6 to 8 weeks. A lot of people believe this is the perfect moment for Alex Caruso to step up and have a bigger role for the Lakers but they might have another option to cover Rondo while he’s out.

After the news surfaced about Rondo’s injury, another former LeBron James’ teammate made the case for himself to join the Purple and Gold while Rajon is inactive. Mario Chalmers took to Instagram to express his desire to return to the NBA and what better option than with the Lakers?

“Sounds like Lakers need another pg… been patiently waitin and workin,” he commented on a post.

Chalmers was the starting point guard of the Miami Heat led by LeBron James from 2010 through 2014. He had four consecutive trips to the Finals, winning two back-to-back championships with the Heat. The Lakers lost Avery Bradley, who decided to sit out due to health reasons, and now Rondo is out due to a hand injury.

They signed Dion Waiters before the league entered hiatus and JR Smith before traveling to Orlando for the bubble.

Chalmers’ last experience in the league came with the Memphis Grizzlies. He hasn’t played in an NBA game in over two calendar years. It remains to be seen if the Lakers take that offer and bring him back to the league or if they believe the guards they have are enough to compete for the title.
