John Wall Doesn’t Want To Play: ‘I Just Don’t Feel Like It’s Safe’

There has been some back-and-forth regarding the resumption of the NBA season. Honest to God, nobody knows what’s going to happen at this point.

On one side we have LeBron James and those who think that bailing on the season won’t help the players’ cause and ability to make an impact on their communities. On the other, we have Kyrie Irving claiming basketball would be a distraction to the protests all over America.

And while both may be on to something, there’s a third side of the story: the players that fear for their safety amid the Covid-19 outbreak and the league’s lack of clarity regarding the procedures in the Orlando bubble.

That’s why John Wall addressed the situation in an interview with Uproxx’s Robby Kalland. He claimed that he’s going to continue working on his rehab and that he doesn’t feel playing basketball is safe right now:

“For me, if I was playing, I wouldn’t want to go to it, to be honest. I just don’t feel like it’s safe. I just don’t feel like it is. I understand why they want to do it and what they’re trying to get to, but I wouldn’t want to,” Wall said.

Wall later backed up Kyrie’s point regarding the Black Livers Matter movement. He acknowledged that Irving’s credibility isn’t at its peak given his recent comments and personality, but he still thinks he’s right this time.

“Kyrie has his things where he be in his own world… ‘The Earth is flat,’. But to be honest, I think he has a point. A lot of people feel that way. I think that’s why they tried to get on that call to see how many people really want to go play and how many people don’t want to play. Because with all this ‘Black Lives Matter’ going on and protesting and trying to get justice and all that; a lot of people feel like it’s not safe to go there. That’s what he stands on,” the Wizards point guard concluded.

At least, the league has already stated that they will enforce no penalties to those players who decide to skip the resumption of the season, so we’ll see which players actually decide to show up when the time comes.
